CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS
Cancellation Policy. You may call 713.222.9255 or email me at Sandra@DiscoverHoustonTours.com before 7am on the day of your tour to cancel your reservation; however, we do not issue refunds unless we cancel the tour. We will confirm your cancellation within 24 hours. You may reschedule your reservation by phone or email within 48 hours of your cancellation notice.
What happens if I bought tickets, but now I can’t make the activity? Can a friend go in my place? Can tickets be refunded or rescheduled? If you purchased tickets, but cannot make the event, you may give your tickets to a friend to take in your place. Tickets are transferable but they are not refundable, unless we cancel the tour.
What if DHT cancels the activity? Can I get a refund? When DHT cancels the event, you will be entitled to a full refund or you may reschedule your tour for another time. Please allow five business days to receive your refund.
Refund Policy. If you choose to leave a tour in progress, DHT will not provide a refund.
CAN’T I DO A TOUR ON MY OWN?
Absolutely. There are many types of tours in Houston and lots of Web sites that provide information, photos, and videos which would enable you to put together your own tour. So, feel free to read our tour description and set out on your own.
CELL PHONES & PAGERS
Please turn all electronic devices to silent mode or turn them off so as not to disturb others on the tour.
If your tour is Kid Friendly, it means that children between the ages of 8 and 12 inclusively are permitted. Please email me at Sandra@DiscoverHoustonTours.com or call 713.222-9255 if you want to bring any children younger than 8 on a Kid Friendly tour or on an adult-only tour. We do ask that, if a youngster gets rambunctious or potentially disruptive on a tour, a parent/guardian step away from the group until the child is settled down.
DAILY DEAL VOUCHERS: Discover Houston Tours no longer participates in daily deals.
Very few DHT tours are Dog Friendly, but when they are, well-behaved and leashed dogs are welcome.
FINDING YOUR GUIDE
On most tours, DHT guides wear jeans and carry a red, white & blue Texas-style shoulder bag. They also wear a name tag with their first and last names.
Ride MetroRail. Save money on gas and parking by riding MetroRail. For maps and schedules, go to RideMetro.org.
Take Metro’s Airport Direct. Coming in and out of Houston via Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)? Save money by riding Metro. Go to RideMetro.org for more information.
Get around downtown with an online map. Access www.DowntownHouston.org, which features an interactive map to help you find hotels, parking, shops, restaurants, bars, and more.
Gift Certificates are now available on DHT’s home page. Just click the link and follow the prompts. Discover Houston Tours All gift certificates are non-refundable and expire one year from the date of issue.
Group Size minimums and maximums vary for each tour. Group Size will be indicated on the description of each tour.
HOW EARLY DO I NEED TO ARRIVE FOR A TOUR?
Please try to arrive at the start time, so that you can check in with the tour guide and find the restrooms. A DHT guide will try to contact a tourist who is running late but will not keep the group waiting any more than 10 minutes from the Start Time.
HOW FAR DO WE WALK?
Distances vary for each tour. Distance will be indicated on the description of each tour.
On average the walks cover about a mile, maybe a mile and a half on some of the longer ones or about 2 kilometers if you’re thinking metrically. It’s not hard walking. We go at a very gentle pace. And there are usually several chances to sit down.
HOW LONG DOES A DHT TOUR LAST?
The time of a walk is indicated on the description of each tour. Most walks take two-four hours.
HOW SAFE ARE DHT TOURS?
Your tour guide is well trained in running DHT tours in a safe manner. If you have any safety or other personal concerns, please mention them to your guide at the beginning of a tour so that the guide can adjust the itinerary.
IS THERE ANYTHING TO DO IN HOUSTON?
Absolutely! We recommend that your take the What’s Up Downtown tour at the beginning of your stay so that the guide can answer your questions, provide background information, and offer suggestions to make the rest of your stay enjoyable and memorable.
To plan ahead, click on www.VisitHouston.com. You’ll find information about hotels and where to eat, shop, and play in Houston and the surrounding region.
DOWNTOWN PARKING MAP. On your computer or mobile device, just hover over the spot where you want to park and information such as hours and fees will appear.
Here are a few other hints from the Houston Downtown Management District: Some metered areas magically turn into tow-away zones from 7 am- 9 am and 4 pm-6 pm on weekdays. Read signs very carefully because many streets have special tow-away, truck loading, and commercial zones. If you have any doubts, park somewhere else.
IF A CURB IS PAINTED RED, it means that you can’t park there EVER. Most of downtown is equipped with new smart meters which take coins, bills, and credit cards. They won’t accept money if you try to use them when parking is not allowed, for instance, in a 4 pm-to-6 pm tow-away zone. Each meter has different lengths of time so LOOK FOR THE LENGTH OF TIME YOU ARE PERMITTED TO PARK.
There are also convenient city-owned and operated garages located in the Theater District, under Tranquillity Park, and under Discovery Green.
PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOTAPING
You may not take photographs or film video in the Downtown Houston Tunnel System or in most buildings.
Advance paid reservations are required for all DHT tours – except when they’re not. If you decide to take one of our tours at the last minute – actually, 2 hours before tour time – call us at 713.222.9255 AND email me at Sandra@DiscoverHoustonTours.com. Please provide detailed information, including your name, the number of people in your party, and the cell number where you can be reached. We will try to call you back as soon as possible and let you know if there are spaces available for the tour. In this case, space will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, which means that if someone else shows up at the start point before we return your call, they may get the last remaining spots. We will always try to accommodate you if we can.
Reservations can be made using the BOOK NOW button on each tour description page.

Unfortunately, public restrooms are few and far between in Houston; however, most of our tours do begin near public restrooms or in restaurants with public restrooms.
DHT would be delighted to have you review your tour on our YELP site.
All DHT tours are non-smoking.

TIPPING THE TOUR GUIDE
Discover Houston Tours’ guides don’t expect gratuities. We conduct tours because we love to show off Houston. In fact, sometimes the best tip is a big hug!. We do, however, happily accept gratuities for a tour well done. According to CNN, in the U.S., it is normal to add a 15% gratuity. So, if your tour costs $30/person, the gratuity would be $4.00-$$5.00/person.
VIDEO/AUDIO TAPING AND NOTE TAKING
Please ask your DHT tour guide for permission before video or audio taping. There are some areas where it is not permitted or where the guide must ask for permission.
WALKING PACE/ACTIVITY LEVEL
We maintain a moderate walking pace, stopping at various sites along the tour. Please check each Tour Description for the Activity Level (easy, moderate, strenuous).
Houston can be cold in the summer air-conditioning and warm during a mild winter, but the rain and wind can show up unannounced at any time. In case of dangerous weather, DHT will contact you to cancel or reschedule your tour.
WHAT ARE THE PEOPLE IN HOUSTON LIKE?
Because Houston is the fourth-largest city in the U.S., the homeless and panhandlers are part of the landscape. When they approach you, just smile and wish them a good day. Do NOT give them money. There are several services that provide shelter, food, and clothing. Any money you give them will not help them.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Please check the local weather forecast and dress appropriately in case of rain and/or high winds. Depending upon the weather, you may want to bring a sweater, a hat, sunscreen, a small, portable umbrella, and a small bottle of water.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing.
If your tour includes the Downtown Houston Tunnel System, please keep in mind that, while the weather outside from May-November can be hot and humid, the Tunnel is air-conditioned and that, while the weather from December-February can be cold, the Tunnel is heated.
DHT does not provide wheelchairs. Most of our tours are not wheelchair accessible. Please contact us at 713.222.9255 or at Sandra@DiscoverHoustonTours.com if you would like to bring someone who uses a wheelchair, walker, or other supportive device.
WHO ARE THE DHT GUIDES?
DHT guides are usually Certified Members of the Professional Tour Guide Association of Houston. All guides have been trained by DHT owner Sandra Lord.
WHO COMES ON DHT’S TOURS?
DHT loves locals and tourists alike. Our tours are a great chance for visitors to meet the locals and to make “new best friends.” Because Houston is now the most diversified city in the U.S., a “local” can be from any part of the world. One thing we all have in common — we all want to “get to Houston as fast as we can.”
