GROUP RIDING THE RAIL TOURS

Advance reservations always required.

Fees:  Vary depending upon option chosen.  $1-$2 MetroRail fare additional (ages 12+), $0.25 - $0.50 (ages 5-11).


TUNNELWALK & RAIL TOUR, 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.  Weekdays.  Start/End: Jason's Deli, 901 McKinney between Travis & Main.  Your tour starts with a short ride on MetroRail to the north end of the line at the University of Houston-Downtown, then back to the Preston Street Station in the Downtown Historic District.  After a rest stop inside the Post Rice Lofts at Main and Texas (optional ice cream at Ben & Jerry's), you'll enjoy a westward view from the highest sky lobby in Texas and a stroll through the Downtown Houston Tunnel System.  Along the way, you'll see historic frescoes at a National Register bank building.  The tour ends at Main Street Square, just in time for lunch. 
 

SPIRITUAL JOURNEY, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Sundays.  Start/End: Lobby, Hotel Icon, 220 Main Street.  Tour two religious institutions in downtown, Midtown, and/or the Museum District.  Dutch-treat lunch at a restaurant along the way.

 


 

ART & ARCHITECTURE RIDING THE RAIL TOUR, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Thursdays.  Start/End: Museum of Fine Arts-Houston Visitors Center, 5600 Fannin.  Includes a round-trip ride on MetroRail from the Museum District Station to the University of Houston-Downtown Station, a Dutch-treat lunch at the University Cafeteria overlooking Buffalo Bayou, downtown art and architecture, optional ice cream at Ben & Jerry's, and a stroll through free sections of the Museum of Fine Arts-Houston   Suitable for all ages.  Optional Dutch-treat meal/snacks at Cafe Express in the MFAH Parking:  Free parking is available in two outdoor street-level lots north of the Law Building along Main Street: one at Bissonnet, one at Oakdale.  All-day covered parking is available for $3 at the Museum Garage on Binz between Fannin and San Jacinto streets.  The entrance is marked by a large yellow arrow.  The Museum Garage is connected to the MFAH's Visitors Center.
 

FISHY FRIDAY RIDING THE RAIL TOUR, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Fridays.  Start/End: Fannin-South Park & Ride Lot; the fee is $2/vehicle.  Make note of your parking space number and pay at the machine located near the track.  Bring $2/adult for a MetroRail Day Pass.  For directions, go to www.ridemetro.org.  We'll ride the full length of the line to UH Downtown, where there is a great view of downtown.  Then we'll walk down the Main Street Viaduct to Allens Landing Park.  We'll have a Dutch-treat lunch at the Spaghetti Warehouse (www.meatballs.com); restrooms are available.  Don't forget to save the leftover bread in a to-go bag to feed the squirrels and ducks in Hermann Park!  We'll walk south three blocks on Main Street through the Downtown Historic District to the Preston Street Station.  After a rest stop at the Post Rice Lofts (optional ice cream at Ben & Jerry's), we'll reboard MetroRail and head south to the Hermann Park/Rice U Station.  We'll walk through the Japanese Gardens (restrooms available) and Hermann Park to the Memorial Hermann Park/Houston Zoo Station, feeding the squirrels and ducks along the way.  We'll board MetroRail for the last time and travel south to the Fannin-South Station. 
 

DOWNTOWN ARCHITECTURE WALKS, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturdays.  Start/End: Visitors Center at City Hall, 901 Bagby..  Stroll past (and sometimes into) historic and modern architectural treasures in downtown Houston.  Event parking at Theater District Garage No. 1, $6.00. 



 

DOWNTOWN ARCHITECTURE WALKS, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Sundays.  Start/End: Lobby, Hotel Icon, 220 Main Street.  Stroll past (and sometimes into) historic and modern architectural treasures in downtown Houston.  Free parking downtown on Sundays.
