Discover little-known facts about the mysterious Howard Hughes as you travel through downtown and the East End on your way to the 1940 Air Terminal Museum and back. The Post Rice Lofts . Howard Hughes's parents stayed at an earlier Rice Hotel on this spot following their honeymoon and Howard was feted at a large banquet here following his record-breaking trip around the world in 1938.Christ Church Cathedral . The Hughes family attended this neighborhood church before it was a cathedral and little Howard went to school here.
Houston Country Club. Howard was an avid golfer and spent much of his free time at the original Houston Country Club located near Wayside Drive in the East End.

For help you dig deeper into this mysterious man's life, Sandra provides everyone with a chronology of Hughes's life, a bibliography of books about Howard Hughes, and a photograph/map of the Hughes gravesite. You will also receive information about the 1940 Air Terminal Museum and Houston's Greater East End.There may be some walking involved. In downtown Houston, we can walk (weather permitting) two blocks from The Post Rice Lofts to Christ Church Cathedral (as the Hughes family would have done). At the cemetery, participants will have the option of staying on the bus or walking about one mile round-trip to the Hughes family plot.Fee: $300 for a five-hour tour, not including lunch and admissions. |
