Discover Houston Tours’ Neighborhood Bus Tours
Lifestyles of Houston's Rich & Famous

Saturday, April 19, 2008, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Saturday, July 19, 2008, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

On this Neighborhood Bus Tour, you'll see the only two homes remaining from downtown’s old silk-stocking neighborhood, Quality Hill.  Residents in this elegant area founded the Daughters of the Republic of Texas in 1891 and took debate classes from Lyndon Johnson at Sam Houston High School in 1930-1931.  They began to move south and west soon after railroad tracks were built behind today’s Minute Maid Park.  By World War II, many of the rich and famous had resettled in River Oaks.  These two tours will take you past today’s swankiendas on Lazy Lane, Inwood, River Oaks Boulevard, and Willowick.

After time on your own to eat at Central Market and shop in Highland Village, you’ll return downtown through more River Oaks streets, with photo opportunities in front of Enron-related homes.  Along the way, Sandra Lord will tell Blood & Money tales and Enron jokes.
