Discover Houston Tours’ Neighborhood Bus Tours
Lifestyles of Houston's Rich & Famous
Saturday, May 17, 2008, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Saturday, August 16, 2008, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

There is so much to see and do in marvelous Montrose that each of these tours will visit a different neighborhood before a Dutch-treat lunch at Katz’s Deli on Westheimer.  On May 17, for one time only, you’ll tour a private home in Avondale once occupied by a young Clark Gable.  Built by the director of Houston’s Little Theater, this home was also an acting studio and bears a stunning resemblance to a Shakespearean theater in old England, complete with wooden beams and balconies.

On August 16, you’ll tour the Lovett Inn, once owned by a Houston mayor.  It boasts the original kitchen and a lovely garden and pool.  After lunch, you’ll tour the University of St. Thomas’s campus and learn about Philip Johnson’s designs dating from the 1950s to today.  On the way back into downtown, you’ll have a photo opportunity in front of Howard Hughes’s teenage home.

Start/End: Houston Visitors Center, City Hall, 901 Bagby Street. The entrance to the Visitors Center is on Walker Street between Bagby and Smith streets.
